Purchased a Grand L3830 in December and love it! Question I have though is what if anything can I do with it in terms of plowing fields? I have about 15 acres of field that needs to be either turned over or chisel plowed. Can this tractor handle something like this? If so, what size impelement should I use? Leaning more towards chisel plowing than moldboard. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

To help with suggestions on the equipment it would help to know what is currently n the field and the types of soil as well as if it's flat or hilly. ....

Sorry... Field has been no-till farmed for the past 20 years. Currently has nothing planted in it but grass and weeds which are harvested for mushroom mulch the past couple of years. Ground is relatively flat, no hills or anything to speak of.

Reseeding is an option, but I'm not exactly sure what I'd like to put into it just yet. Besides, after 20+ years of no-tilling, wouldn't it be a good idea to turn over the soil? Won't be ready for Spring planting, so I'd like to have it ready for Fall. ....

To have been no-till tells me that with good crops it has good PH and a good balance of fertilizer. The notill tells me that chances are it has less ground compaction from common tillage like plows and discs so you should have room for good root growth. ....

So you're suggesting to continue with the no-till approach regardless of the crop? That being the case, let's say I decide to go with planting alfalfa or some other type of grass, any recomendations on a seeder? Guess I'd be looking for something that seeds and fertilizes at the same time. The existing crop of grass and weeds, should that be killed off? This is all very new to me, so I really do appreciate your insight Art! Thanks! :) ....

The old has to go! Spraying is the most effective way but before you get started I'd still recommend some soil tests. I do prefer the fertilizer be liquid and not applied with the drill if that is your method of seeding. The fertizer can be quite a rust maker if care is not taken.
The application can be done in several ways, to use a seeder I like the ground drive units over the pto drive, less moving parts is the winner here. ....
